Major tennis organizations and tournaments are committing to sustainable practices, including
the reduction or elimination of single use plastics. Here are some highlights:

  • Plastic bags are banned inside stadiums; only paper bags are used.
  • Plastic “polybags” are no longer used to wrap tennis racquets during stringing.
  • Reusable water bottles are provided for players, media, and staff.
  • Spectators are encouraged to bring their own reusable water bottles for refilling at the many water refilling stations.
  • Cutlery and drink cups sold by vendors will be made from 100% recycled plastic.
  • Ball crew shirts will be made from yarn derived from recycled plastic bottles.
  • 50% reduction of the amount of plastic used to make tennis ball cans.
  • Recycling clean plastic wrap used by vendors at the stadiums.
  • Paper or compostable straws will replace plastic straws.
